Words as Art

by Ken Arnold on Thu 23 May 2013

There is a fish called the Sarcastic Fringehead.

To me, that’s a post all in itself. That is just amazingly a thing. They named a fish the “Sarcastic Fringehead”. Aren’t folks wonderful? Isn’t it a glorious world that has such words in it?

Some words are just art unto themselves. Not art in the sense that you can do word art, especially not Microsoft Word’s “Word Art”, which is just a contradiction in terms.

Just themselves, a fine work of art. Something that gives joy to contemplate, pleasure in sharing the planet with.

Sarcastic Fringehead is such a thing.

Oh, all right. Here’s a great video about the damn things. Actually they’re quite fascinating. But even if they were the most boring fish on the planet, today would still be a good day.

Sheesh, and your gonna make me do math to leave a reply? Well doesn’t that just figure! Anyway, thanks for a funny post, I needed it this week. More to come…

Okay, now I have 2 questions:

1 – How on earth, or maybe I should say, under the sea, did you come upon a fish called a Sarcastic Fringehead? Okay, maybe this question is too obvious.

2 – Who came up with such a bizarre name and why? Looks more obnoxious than sarcastic!

Okay, I can’t do all this math just to correct my bad grammar! *you’re (from post #1)

I came across it in the Scripps Aquarium in La Jolla. Took a picture. Finally wore a post about it. Next time you come visit I can show it to you. Although it wasn’t doing anything that interesting when I was there…
